The LG you selected is a solid set, Though I'd recommend looking around locally to see if you can catch a sale or maybe even find a Samsung with equal specs in your price range. For gaming at least, I think the Sammys may be a better option.
Samsung and LG have always been my go to brands I think. As far as larger screens like that I am not sure who has the best display for a larger display.
My HDTV just recently died (I'm going to miss her), but it's been about a day so I figured it was time to move on.

-55'-60'
-Great for gaming
