What is your entertainment system?

  • In my living room I have a Yamaha RX-V861 Receiver, With Wharfedale Diamond 9 7.1, It has a nice sound to it,
It's just too bad that the place I am renting has not got the best acoustics, otherwise I would have them set up surround like, I have to have them in stereo, Which produces a better sound, but, doesn't have the same effect, My TV is a Samsung 40" HD LCD, real nice clear picture, Hooked up is a Sony DVD player, My PS3, and my shitty PC,

And in my Room I have A Sony Receiver it's my old system, before all this HD goodness, It does the job well, considering it's a small room,

So hooked up to this system are 2 towers, 3 small surrounds, a centre and 4 satellite speakers, An old SD Sony 30" TV my DVD player and a PS2, PS1 and when I feel nostalgic, I bring out the Mega Drive,

    What have you got?
  • I don't have the space (live in a 13 square meter flat) for a real setup, but I a little HD panel (about 17 inches) hooked up to my PS3.  The PS3 doubles as a media server that streams stuff down from my computer to the panel, in case I don't want to ccupy my entire desktop with playing something to watch.

Sound system, just the built in iMac speakers or the panel's speakers.  I'm poor, I have to spend what money I get on camera stuff :P
  • I have a PS3, a Wii, and a television. Nothing super special going on. I did at one point have some speakers sitting around my room, but those died as quickly as they came.

Granted I got them off someones lawn across the street for free and had to wire them myself. Perhaps their longevity was a testament to my electrical skill.
  • I have my laptop, an Xbox 360, and a small T.V. set and no sense of regret or a felling of missing something.
  • 32'' LCD TV with a PS3, 360, and an Direct TV DVR.
  • Eventually, when you know I am fabulously wealthy, I'd love to invest in a serious HD projector and literal theater type setup in an entertainment room.

But don't have the budget for that yet.

    • Yamaha HTR-5630 A/V receiver
    • Sony SS-MB215 front speakers
    • Sony SS-MB115 rear speakers
    • Athena AS-C1 center channel
    • Polk Audio PSW404 subwoofer
    • Aiwa XC-35M 5 disc CD changer (that I never use)
    • Philips 27PT54 27" SDTV (no HD yet, sadly)
    • Xbox 360 (no PS3 yet either)
    • PlayStation 2

Not the highest range setup, but it sounds good--to me at least. I think next on the priority list for me is an HDTV, followed by a PS3. 95% of my time on this setup is spent playing Xbox 360. I occasionally watch movies or TV on it too, but I hardly do any music listening on it. I occasionally pop in a CD or stream music across my network using my Xbox 360, but the majority of my music listening is done on my PC.

Nothing fancy here. Just a pair of Harman/Kardon SoundSticks II. Two satellites and a sub.
  • Laptop, Playstation 3, HDTV, Sony headphones.
  • 360, laptop, HDTV, and a stereo that I have my 360 hooked up too.
  • Dont have big entertainment system, Small TV with the Xbox 360 hooked.
  • 40" TV with a 360 hooked up... Thats about it really. Boring I know.

I bought that before My TV, but at my old place I could hang it up easily, I can't put it up where I am now,

From my old pad, as you can see, My 9 foot screen is hung up behind me, and you can see the component cables on the ceiling heading towards the Projector.
  • We have a 46" toshiba DLP. I just built a little HTPC for it (Athlon II X2 250, 4 gig of Ram, onboard radeon 4200, blu-ray player with PowerDVD 9 ultra)  It's pretty sweet but for some reason it struggles with HULU. it plays Netflix fine but stutters with HULU.

It is very lacking on the sound department. That is the one thing I don't know much about. I just send the output to the TV speakers through the HDMI connector on the mobo and it is lacking base.
  • Bedroom Setup:

    LG 50" PS3000 1080p HDTV
    Logitech X-540 5.1 Speakers
    Sennheiser HD 595 Headphones
    Xbox 360
    PS3 Slim
WDTV HD & 1tb external HDD
    Crappy Vista PC
  • Samsung 120Hz 1080p 47" TV (I think like 7/8 series)
Samsung HTIB (Home theater in a box- surprisingly not bad for $200)
    Xbox 360
    Playstation 3
    MacBook Pro 13"
  •
    RCA FPR515WR 20" TV
Soundesign 6821M AM/FM Stereo Receiver/Dual Cassette Deck with Record Player
Xbox 360 Premium with 60GB hard drive
    PlayStation 2 Slim
    Super Nintendo Entertainment System
The TV I found in a back room when another TV finally gave up the ghost.  Looking at finally going high def, but don't know if I'll do a monitor or an LCD HDTV, and if I get a monitor, I don't know what I'll do with the PS2 and SNES.  The stereo I found used for fifteen bucks, and I bought it to hook my computer up to, as I don't like the sound from those little computer speakers, and for the record player.  Then my surround system died and this became the center of my home theater system.  And the record player isn't working.  It comes on automatically when you move the arm over the platter, but the switch is broken.  Got this 360 last year on layaway from K-Mart (the only store in the area where I could layaway a new one) after getting unemployment after losing my job and selling my old one to pay bills.  The PS2 I got at a pawn shop after selling a previous 360 so I'd have something better than a PS1.  And my friend gave me the Super when he moved and was getting rid of stuff.

  • Here is a quick snap shot of our setup, complete with dog beds, kids toys and one dog.

Projector is a Panasonic 720p, looking to upgrade soon to their newer 1080P model once we move.
Screen is 110 inch pull down, the mechanism broke so we had to ghetto rig it with weights on each side lol.
5 Piece Yamaha speakers( other 2 are on either side of the couches)
    Yamaha Sub-Woofer as well.
    Pioneer VSX-LX50 AV receiver.
42 inch 1080p Sony bravia, mainly used for TV(the little we watch) and the 360.

Everything hooked to the projector is via HDMI, picture is nice but could be better, really looking forward to the move and getting the newer 1080p model as well as a better screen.
We will have more room in the new house and will actually be able to run wires properly(military housing limits how much I can do to walls lol).  Will also be able to have a dedicated
entertainment room, as this room pictured is the main living room, and connected to the kitchen, so acoustics kind of suffer.  If you have the room I really recommend a decent projector,
they are getting really cheap these days, ours is nice 720p and was under $1000 and we bought it close to a year ago.
  • I'll take a pic of mine and my housemates living room setup when i go back to uni this weekend. It includes my housemates projector, my 5.1 sound system/DVD player that has an ipod hub so we can listen to everyones music, any 1 of our 4x 360s and/or 3x ps3s from 1 of our bedrooms and a permanent small media center PC usually to stream content from my PC.

EDIT: If there isnt too much mess, beer bottles/pizza boxes then i'll take a picture

So you have a gnarly 7.1 system and you listen to everything in stereo?  You really like getting your money's worth, don't you?
  • @bherre: just noticed this bad boy here, for $999.99 - the prices on HD projectors have really fallen in the past couple years.
  • @100_Hertz:
The way my flat is laid out means that I can't have the set up  I want, The front door is behind the couch and my kitchen is directly on the right side, I can't mount the speakers on the walls, so, yeah, it sucks, and the acoustics in my flat are horrible as well,

At my old place I had it set up perfectly, but alas I had to move.
  •  Here it is, i used to have my NES and SNES hooked up here but i moved them into my room.  yes i know there's little kid stuff, i have little siblings.

  • soooo, what about now?
  • Well just this week I finally got rid of my 32 inch sdtv (not a flat one) and got an lg 32 inch hd ready lcd tv. Also I have gotten a Free agent hd mediaplayer for 44 euros :). and last my 360 is hooked up as well.

on to the sound part: if I use speakers i usally hook my system up with my stereo but since my mom starts naggin about it, most of the time I'm resticted to my akg k514 headphones.
  • Uh, I just have a 22" HDTV/Monitor. I use it for TV, 360, and obviously, as a monitor for my desktop. I also have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50S for anything audio related.
  •
I'm not much of an AV guy, which is why I don't have any of the fancy accessories to enhance my setup. An HD TV and consoles is enough for me.
  • I'm not taking a picture of it because I'm insanely embarrassed about the wallpaper that I'm not allowed to change because I'm renting in a house.  It's made up to look like a green kilt and there's brick...  it's hideous.
