What kind of software are you using for your HTPC? 
 
Personally I am using MediaPortal ( link) with the Streamed MP skin. Its free open source and I really like the customizations possibilities and plugins available for the software.

Previously I have also tried XBMC and Boxee but I like the control that I have in MediaPortal which I couldn’t really find in these. But I didn’t spend too much time with them so maybe it’s in there.

What kind of software are you guys using? What are your experience and why do you use the software? I am always open for trying new software so I’m interested in what other possibilities there is out there!

I had a MythTV box several years ago, but I don't have cable anymore so I just use the Xbox and the Roku.

I also use MediaPortal mainly due to the tv support but seeing as I effectively don't watch or record live tv I'm thinking about changing to something that has a more visual experience.

@Technicolour:  I dont use MP for TV, but mainly movies, tv shows and music. I use the StreamedMP skin wich I think looks great (it's a XBMC skin port I think) StreamedMP comes with a few plugins to organise and handle the fanart.

I use my PS3 or just watch things straight on the iMac.  As I no longer have a living room, it leans more towards the iMac (which is about twice the size of my TV at the moment.  Heck, my 13 inch macbook is bigger than my TV at the moment)
