Gizmodo is reporting that facebook has switched all users' default email addresses to the @facebook.com email that no one had any interest in using. You can read about it here
Luckily, it's super easy to switch it back to the way it was before. What do you think, is facebook overreaching with this stealth change?
I think this is over reaching. Silently changing user settings is a big no-no when it comes to customer relations. It wouldn't be a big deal if they had sent out a message to the old e-mail notifying the users about the change (github did this when they had to reset SSL keys due to API changes), but silently doing it is just shitty.
Totally overreaching. Especially since I removed all external contact information on my facebook (as I'd like to keep my facebook page open to the public). Have they learned nothing from google's mistakes? Always make account-level changes opt-in, not opt-out.
This is a very typical Facebook move by making stealth changes. Eventually that behavior lead me to close my account over a year ago because I just got tired of endlessly having to chase after it.
So i guess there always is the Ultimate Opt-Out ;)

Too bad your account very likely only got closed, and not deleted...
Mind you, thats just photos...but it's unlikely your account will ever get deleted...All that information your friends post of you when they upload photos and tag everyone in them...or write about people needs to get sync'd to an account somewhere.

I would see this being a big deal if an email address was the first thing you found when looking at a Facebook Profile.

@roylink: My email is pretty much the only thing you see when you pull up my facebook profile.
