So this June there is going to be a summer nethack "tournament".... wait where are you going?
Seriously though, Junenethack is a tournament from June 1st to June 30th where you play nethack (and variants) on various servers and get trophies (on the internet) and compete to see who is the best.
There are both competitive and non-competitive trophies, so you don't have to be the best at nethack to get some enjoyment out of it. (e.g. trophies for completing branches of the dungeon exist). The tournament is a great way to become familiar with nethack and its variants.
Never played nethack before? You can still participate, and if you check out UnNetHack (telnet to un.nethack.nu) that variant has a tutorial that explains the basics of the game.
Anyways, I will be participating in the tournament (user Squigs) and if anyone else wants to we could set up a Tested clan.
Also, if Nethack seems too daunting to you, it's quite a bit of fun to watch (once you understand a little bit about the game that is). In some ways, it's almost like spectating a game of dark souls. An ascii game of dark souls. Only less forgiving. And with more kittens.
Challenge mode: roll Tourist, drink and wear everything you find without bothering to identify it, #chat with every creature you see. You are now Twoflower.
