FUCK FUCK FUCK I hit enter before I had finished making all the choices. Well, you get to choose between A & B, sorry Testes.

Edit: The answer I would have chosen (if it existed) was that I type with a modified version of the standard, and while my fingers don't actually adhere to the rules I do type pretty fast and error-free. Basically, my left hand does multi finger and such while my right hand only uses the index finger. It's messed up, I know, but it works like a charm.

Also, I would have added "chocobo" as one of the poll options.

I think I am like you Fripple, I don't type 'properly' but I type fast and without errors.  I overuse my index fingers, though I still use the other fingers sometimes as well.  I've had people comment on how weird it is

I also use a Japanese keyboard layout, so that is a bit different as well, particularly for a lot of the symbols, and the half-sized spacebar.

I'm the same in that I use a kind of modified version of the standard. I tend to use my right index and middle fingers with my left index finger to type letters. My right pinky hits enter or backspace my left thumb hits enter and the left pinky hits shift, and control, and the left ring finger hits the tab. So it's kind of weird, but it works for me and I type relatively fast and I'm not looking at the keyboard to type. I can look at the screen the whole time.

Like Fripple said I don't follow home keys to a dot, but my way works and I like it.

I think it's situational..

Normally my right hand I just use the index finger, but that's for letters, I use my middle finger to the punctuation and my pinky for enter/right shift. However on my left hand I tend to use all my fingers.

I think it's also to do with the way that QWERTY puts most of the frequently used keys are on the left hand side.

Bleh. It's terrible that you guys use your pinkies for any typing whatsoever, those things are just not durable enough for the long haul.

My pinkies are godly. I do 100 pinkie curls each morning with tiny barbells.

I used to type home row with pretty much all fingers except for my pinkies.  About 6 months ago though I started trying to teach myself a little programming, and all those symbols on the right side of the keyboard that I never used before were suddenly very important to me.  Now I type pretty much with all my fingers.  Sometimes I reach for the "p" with my ring finger, and I still struggle a bit with the brackets, but I've gotten much better.

For the most part, I type the "proper" way with slight deviations.  I was taught to touch type ever since elementary school, so my index fingers feel as though they're magnetically drawn to the 'f' and 'j' buttons.  How my typing deviates from the norm is that I never use the right shift key, and that I shift my entire hand when I need to press delete.

I'm mostly home-row.  I occasionally will take the load off of my pinkies, but I definitely use them on the home row.

It's funny because I play piano, and all of my fingers are quite strong, but I still type using only my index and middle fingers.  I have the QWERTY layout memorized and don't "hunt and peck", and am quite fast and accurate, but still can't move on from my four-finger method.

I only use one pinky.  But that's because my left pinky was involved in an unfortunate accident with an electric hedge clipper.  Ever since then, there is a weird tingly sensation whenever I put any pressure on it.

The only useful practical skill I ever got from a high school public education was the ability to type.   Knowing how to type without looking at the keyboard is such a useful skill esp. in a world where computers and the internet are so prevalent and essential to everyday life.

The only time I do use the hunt and peck method is when my other hand has the drink or food I'm eating while sitting at the keyboard.  I have the keyboard memorized by rote so if I had to rely on hunt and peck I would be very good at it, but thankfully I have both arms and hands working well so I type without that annoyance.

I type, on average, 60 to 80 words per minute.  Depends on how focused I am.

@lane: That image makes me think of you with massively buff pinkies compared to the rest of your hands, it's kind of frightening.

I type properly between 80-90 WPM which isn't crazy fast but I do have very good accuracy. Also am I the only one who is a little confused why we were all referred to as testes?
