Since GB doesn't really give a fuck about PC gaming, can you guys do it?
Post by Rehehelly (256 posts) See mini bio
I wouldn't say that..

I mean PC gaming nowadays doesn't have as many releases, and they're normally ports (like MW2). GB still cares about PC Gaming, it's just not many games are released exclusively for the PC, so it's easier to test them on consoles (considering for most PC games, people use a controller, like blur)

What games aren't they covering that you want them to?  Nearly every PC game that comes out is a port, like Rehehelly said.  Most of the exclusive games at least get Quick Look coverage.  They don't review that many games, so if you're expecting PC game reviews, then, yeah, you're going to be disappointed.

I'll start reviewing PC games for Tested as long as the only game I ever have to review is Team Fortress 2. Oh, and by "reviewing," I mean "playing." And by "for Tested," I mean "in my underwear."

It's not so much the review type stuff, it's the way they deal with PC stuff that annoys me, it always seems like "well shit, fine we'll do this pc game." Stuff like TNT, which is console only.

@fish_face_mcgee:
I can think of a lot of games that I'd like to see them cover.  The only problem is, most of the interesting stuff happening on PC these days is indie stuff, and GB is just too mainstream to wade through all the indie titles to pick out the gems.  The most important PC-only game I can think of that comes out in the next 3-4 months (aside from Starcraft, which GB has been covering) is Stardock's Elemental, and that's a pretty niche game.

Thats great idea!

Also as bad as it may seem PC gamers are kind of like the Dark Knight.  People look to console games cause they are scared of the mouse and keyboard.  Also they think its cheaper to  upgrade them... when it fails oo just send it back and replace it. With PC a PC you are limitless with upgrade, mods and anything really.  Different OS, programming, INternet surfing.  This all just me talking.

Sadly thats how it is.  Main stream is consoles and most titles are reviewed and previewed on Xbox first even if its released on every console.  But with RTS games its best to go straight to PC.

Except that makes a lot of sense.  They're mostly console gamers, and the majority of "hardcore" gamers (i.e. the Giant Bomb audience) play on consoles.  It's downright stupid for them to do something like TNT for the PC unless it's TF2, WoW, or one of the handful PC games that has a large enough overall audience where it could be assumed that large number of GB users would have it.  GB's treatment of PC Games as "second class citizen[s]" is a reflection of the game industry as a whole.  The majority of game piracy occurs on the PC, so many developers avoid PC exclusive games, meaning there are few games for Giant Bomb to care about on PC.

Well yeah, GB can keep the console port trash. I'm wishing Tested would do real PC games.

I helped out get some TF2 nights going. But, I feel a tad uncomfortable setting those up. I would love to try weird obscure games with plenty of people, but at the same time, "hey every one, TF2 friday" is a lot easier to do. I would love to RTS matches, or DOTA games like Heroes of Newerth. Or even fps, like Unreal Tournament.

Secondly, another thing I hated, was I felt like I was calling attention to myself trying to set these up. Which is why I was constantly hoping someone else would take the reins. Instead, I've been watching movies with my girlfriend lately. FYI, Sexy Beast. Incredible movie.

Honestly, I find that most console ports are still better on the PC (even slightly), as console hardware and resolutions are limited and fairly stagnant, whereas the PC (or Mac, if you prefer) worlds are constantly innovating and revamping their hardware, improving the experience with pretty much everything.

@Leptok:  The whole attitude of "PC games are obviously always superior" isn't helping your cause, it's just making you look immature.

Perhaps they grew tired of the superiority complex A LOT (note: not all) of PC only gamers seems to posses?

I do some gaming on PC, but nowadays pretty much everything is released on every platform (short of RTS titles, those are still pretty much exclusive to the PC), and honestly I prefer to play on my couch on the big screen TV on one of my consoles. Also, aside from graphical fidelity the majority of games don't differ much from Xbox to PS3 to PC. If you read a review for an Xbox 360 version of the game, you're most likely going to get a very similar (if not identical) experience on the PC.

So are you saying get some TF2 night together with tested community or DOTA?

i'll gladly champion PC gaming, but I think that coverage should stick on GB (where Snider does a great job of it now). it's just more opportunities for crossover appearances.

Well after all, it's not like they'll ever run out of tech things to do.

You're not really helping your cause by saying that GB sucks for thinking PC games are bad, when you obviously have the attitude of console games being trash.

They do cover some PC titles (There's been SC2 coverage from Brad for instance, and just recently some PC indie games) but the fact is that most big releases these days are console games, and some get PC ports as well.  They're a very small team that is obviously going to focus on the bigger more mainstream titles, and work their way down from there.  Personally, I'd prefer to see them get some really good Japanese game and JRPG coverage before they expand to an entirely other platform.  The only titles they're really going to be able to QL and talk about for the PC are either RTS games (which don't typically have console versions) and indie games, and they do both of those already usually.

I'm not sure what you want them to cover that they aren't already, you just seem bitter that they don't think consoles suck.
