Microsoft is finally shutting down the Xbox Live service for original console games, which means this is the last night for Halo 2 online play. I had some incredible memories of playing that game online — it was definitely a different online atmosphere in Live's early days. So, who'll be giving Halo 2 a send-off tonight?

I put a 48-hour gold voucher onto my XBLive ID (HorribleFanfare), so feel free to add me and perhaps we can get in a few games this evening.

I'll definitely be up in some Halo 2 later.  GT: Fish Face McGee

I won't be playing because I don't own any games, but I will be watching Giant Bombs send off feature if that counts as a send off.

I'll watch the send off on Giant Bomb but I don't have any of the "classic games on Xbox Live anymore.

I'll probably jump on Star Wars Battlefront 2 and see if there are any decent rooms going.

@ALTF4_FOR_COLORS: Good call. I totally forgot I had that game, to be honest, and I'm a little sad I didn't break it out.

So how'd everyone's last night go? I went over to a friend's house, only to find their router/modem combo was on the fritz. I really did consider tethering my paltry 500Mb data plan just to get on LIVE for a few games , but decided I'd rather not take out a sizeable bank loan at this point in my life. Sigh.

Well I watched the Giant Bomb 2 hour send off. But since the XML didn't wanna go offline, I ended up watching the guys play for 6 hours and 20 minutes until they called it. Quiet fun though I have to say.

That 6 hour stream was amazing and horrifying at the same time. I ended up collapsing like 2 hours after it ended.

Maybe we can do the same again tonight!

The GiantBomb video was the best send off for Original Xbox Live possible. I loved every minute of it.

@AhmadMetallic: Haha lol. Don't worry I meant games for the original Xbox. I do in fact own a lot of games.

Halo 1 and 2 were the only games which i enjoyed playing on xbox live, the other games were ok. It makes you think that one day the xbox 360 live function may be shut down as well.

I think it will be interesting to see just how long they keep the 360's live functionality alive. The original lasted over 8 years. I image the 360 service will last at least ten, unless the new platform they release takes it over, without really killing it off.

@Berserk: Halo 1 was never actually playable over Live, but I have incredibly fond memories of playing 16 person LAN matches with friends. There was an article on Eurogamer, dissecting the production of Halo 2, and one of the developers explicitly said that Halo 1 was built for 16 players, but most only played the 4-player split-screen, which diminished the appeal. The fact that I regularly had 15 other people in a room playing Halo with me is probably why I had such fond memories of the first title.

Mine was pretty bad, all the SW: BF 2 rooms were either either too small or rocket whore fests with space battles in the playlists. I was hoping Duneusal, who used to run an awesome room, would create a room or at least one of the regulars from back in the day.

Oh well, at least I went out ranked #2307 overall. [/egostroke]
