Just out of curiosity, how price conscious are people around here about their games (across all platforms)?  I'd say I generally stay in the $20-$40 range, waiting for games to come down or go on sale, though I do buy a few games every year at full price.  However, if I like a game and I got a good price on it, I'm tend to spend a bit extra on DLC when it comes out.

$20 is the impulse limit for me. Over that, it has to be something I'm really interested in playing.

After taxes and everything games here are generally reaching the $70 mark. I try to be frugal when it comes to my gaming costs, but if it's a game I REALLY want then I take no issue in paying full price to get it day one. Lately though I've been buying less and less games and spending more time with the ones I have. If I am semi-interested in a game but I know it's only like 5 hours long I'll wait until I can rent it.

Call me a trophy whore/achievement whore/whatever, but that feature alone has cut down my spending. Sometimes I enjoy going for that platinum trophy in a game, so if I buy it I'll spend the time working towards getting all the trophies/achievements and thus still playing that game and not going out and spending another $60-$70 on the new hotness. Also, trading sites like Goozex, while ultimately flawed, offer a good way to get games and keep the spending to a minimum.

As far as a blind impulse buy goes, it would have to be less than $10.

Um, I shoot for like 5000 yen so uh...$55ish?  Depends if I am shopping new or used, but I do tend to prefer to buy new.

I have definitely payed over 60 before, but I try to avoid it as much as I can.  Most of the time it's around 50ish for me.

Usually around £25/€30 for a new PC game. After being severely disappointed by God of War 3, I don't think I'll ever pay full price for a PS3 game again, except for Gran Turismo 5, if it ever comes out. On a related note, I was extremely pissed off to realise that I hadn't canceled my Splinter Cell: Conviction order for the PC as it was shipped last week. Now I either go to the bother of notifying the store and returning it, or just keeping it.

I mostly buy my games online through eBay and Zavvi and when I do, I generally have a strategy to buy them when they are at 30€ or less, which can take a month or two after their release. A new full priced game on the webs is around 45€ and I rarely give that much money, unless I know that I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of it, like with Just Cause 2. But I definately won't pay 45€ for a new game like God Of War III, even though it's a high level game.

Gamefly is also an excellent choice for buying your games, if you've used it for a while.  10% off used price and $5 off your first purchase per month, if you don't buy a whole lot of games and don't mind waiting for them to become available as used, it's VERY cost effective.

Sadly I had to cancel my GF account when I left the states, but for those in the states it's a pretty strong option.

A few months ago I generally paid $20-40 for most of my games; these days I've been on an under-$20 bargain hunting spree.

Oh man, I would say 40-60$, but prices here in Denmark peaks at 100-110$ (Gamestop) for a new release. So I usually buy my games from the UK from ebay or amazon.

I have to say more than $60 due to the fact that I get screwed for not living in the States oh which has fuelled my passionate love for steam.

<3 Steam.

I generally buy old games. So I generally scavenge stores online or offline for games. 5 to 10 dollars is what I look for and then buy several. A game to be purchased at a full 60 requires genuine interests. Demon's Souls and God of War 3 were the last two games I bought for 60 recently. Saw a trailer back in '08 for both and put myself in media black out. But hey, I just bought Fallout 1 for PC with the giant manual for 10 dollars, so it doesn't hurt to shop around.

Less than $20 is impulse buy territory for me.  Steam sales are my best friend here.

Lately I  have been taking advantage of Goozex.  My 360 died out of warranty and when I decided not to replace it yet again, I posted my games up to Goozex to trade for some PS3 games I have been wanting.  Waaaay better trade in values than EBgames and it seems to be (so far) more reliable than Ebay.  With the credit I have built up there so far, I don't think I will be spending any money for a good while on console games.

I will buy a really good game at 50-60 dollars, but i usually wait for there to be a sale on Steam, cause I got a lot of THQ games valued at $300, for $50.  So yeah, Steam is good for that.

@MonkeyGekko:   You're joking right?  100-110 American dollars?  That is crazy!
