Filming The Dark Knight with Scale Miniatures
This really neat video popped up over the weekend on some comic book sites, showing behind-the-scenes footage of 2008's The Dark Knight. Specifically, it centers around the use of scale models for the underground chase (and crash) scene between the Tumbler and the Joker's garbage truck. Christopher Nolan and his visual effects supervisor hired New Deal Studios to create the scale miniatures for filming, based on molds of the batmobile left over from Batman Begins. The 1/3 scale models are gorgeous; you can find photos of the production in this album, another video of the making of that chase sequence here, and a tour of New Deal Studios' miniatures shop here.
