Designing a Vinyl Toy, from Concept to Product
I love the vinyl "art toy" business, and it's really neat to see artists take their 2D character concepts and transform them into physical objects. As any maker of commercial products can attest, bringing a toy to market can be a long and drawn-out process. Oftentimes, you can find sneak preview photos and updates on artists' blogs of manufacturer's Facebook pages, but this video does a good job compressing that entire product design timeline into a 10 minute piece. Artist Joe Ledbetter guides us through his creation of a new "Chaos Bunnies" toy line, which includes steps I never thought of, like tracing vector illustrations from photos of sculpted prototypes for packaging and promotional art.
