Motion Control Robots Choreograph Surreal Projection Mapping Demo
Bot & Dolly is an impressive start-up tinkering with the idea of using motion-controlled factory robots to achieve millimeter precision camera movements that would otherwise be very technically difficult with traditional camerawork. Their robots, Iris and Scout, are programmed for filmmaking using Maya 3D software, and have been used in the filming of commercials and even the upcoming martial arts movie 'Man of Tai Chi'. In collaboration with The Creators Project, Bot and Dolly just released this short film demonstrating the potential of its robotics motion control system in CG-free performance art. "Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera. Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration. It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering."
