Inflatable Robots, Engineers, and The Hope For a Better World
Yesterday, we visited the offices of Otherlab, a workshop and startup space founded by inventor and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Saul Griffith. It's the birthplace of Othermill, the Kickstarted home CNC milling machine that we saw at Bay Area Maker Faire. Otherlab's workspace is a wonderful confluence of engineers, designers, and makers, collaborating in a building that used to be a pipe organ factory. Our video about Othermill will be up in a week or two, but one of the coolest things we saw during our visit was an experiment with inflatable soft robotics. We actually weren't allowed to shoot photos or video of these robots, but they are showcased in this inspirational Autodesk short film about the influence and world-changing power of engineers. It's an absolutely lovely video.
