Laika Studio on Stop-Motion AnimationBy Norman Chan Short video tour of Laika, the stop-motion animation studio that made last year's ParaNorman and 2009's Coraline. Lead Animator Travis Knight talks about the nuances of stop-motion animation and getting emotional performances out of puppets. I like the time-lapse sequences that show just how long it takes to animate one scene. Also, notice how controlled the lighting is to each setup--light has to stay exactly the same throughout an entire shot to create the illusion of fluid movement.
