Charming Rube Goldberg Machine Ready to Travel the World

By Norman Chan

It all fits into two suitcases and may the world's smallest Rube Goldberg machine.

HeyHeyHey, a Dutch directing duo, created a complex Rube Goldberg machine named Melvin that fits into two suitcases. Its purpose is to travel around the world, taking photos and stamping postcards at each location it visits:

As soon as Melvin is set up for a run, he starts gathering geographical data, which he uses to determine where he is in the world. He will then publish that info on this site and through hisTwitter account and Facebook page. Not only does Melvin map where he is, he also takes pictures of his surroundings and the people he meets - pretty much like a real tourist or traveler. So, don’t be surprised to see yourself on the map when you’ve seen Melvin the Mini Machine in real life.

More great stills of the machine and behind-the-scenes photos from the video shoot have been posted here.

Last year, the directing team created a larger Rube Goldberg contraption called Melvin the Magical Mixed Media Machine. This new machine is its younger sibling.
