First Annual Nerdy Derby Set for World Maker Faire

By Norman Chan

Like the classic Pinewood Derby in Cub Scouts, but with no rules.

If you're planning on attending the World Maker Faire at the end of September in New York City (we're going to be there!), you may want to check out the first annual Nerdy Derby, a twist on the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby competition. Unlike the Pinewood Derby, which has draconian rules dictating the weight and materials used for crafting the race car, the Nerdy Derby throws all rules (but not common sense) out the window, encouraging participants to be as creative as possible in building their cars. That could mean cars with golf balls for wheels or on-board electronics for a last-second boost. Nerdy Derby will also have an on-site workshop for Maker Faire attendees to build cars during the event. Maybe it's time to start designing Tested's own wooden wagon in time for race day.
