LEGO Mine Micro World Kit Now in Production, Pre-Order Available

By Norman Chan

The user-submitted set is now in production and will be on sale this summer.

No surprise here--we're excited for this. The Lego Minecraft kit (Lego item 21102) is now available for pre-order from Jinx's website for $35. The set, named Micro World, will consist of 480 pieces, and will include both a Steve and Creeper characters built from Lego blocks--no special minifigs here.

Configure your four micro-scale LEGO Minecraft modules any way you like. Build your own mines and hills, and expand your world with multiple sets. Includes four LEGO Minecraft modules, hidden resources, extra pieces for wood, dirt, and stone, two "Micro Mobs;" Steve and a creeper.

In the Micro World design, a standard lego brick is analogous to a Minecraft building block, and I'm happy to see that the set will be at least somewhat modular for user customization. Looks like it'll be great as a display piece too. Minecraft is the third user-submitted Lego project that has been turned into an official Lego product; the first two Cuusoo successes were a Japanese submarine and satellite. Submissions need 10,000 votes before they are taken to the Lego board for official review. The current top-ranked submission is a Back to the Future kit with over 4,000 votes, though my personal favorite is this minifig-scale "tumbler" Batmobile. Kits developed through the Cuusoo process have so far only been sold at select Lego-approved websites and a limited number of Lego stores, so Minecraft Micro World may not appear on Amazon.
