A great listen: the newest episode of the podcast 99% Invisible is about how skaters see the world differently than the rest of us, and how modernist architects indadvertedly designed public spaces that were perfect for skating. At the episode's focus is Edmund Bacon, the Philadelphia architect who designed LOVE Park. The park became a mecca of sorts for skaters, to the frequent consternation of city officials. Bacon became a supporter of his park's skate-friendliness and, at age 92, fought city plans to renovate it back in 2002. Edmund Bacon was also Kevin Bacon's father.
