I completely agree, where is the Mobility Radeon 5870 option? I want DirectX 11 support

3000$ is complete overkill, most of that money goes to the CPU which in this case makes little difference in gaming performance. Cut the screen, battery and CPU (the i7 720qm is just fine) upgrades. I wonder why Alienware always ships these extremely expensive test units, people want to know what they get within reason. i7 720qm at 1,6ghz 6mb cache costs 300$ extra, while the i7 920xm 2,0ghz 8mb cache is 1200$ extra. That is not 900$ worth of performance

Wow, $3000 ? A bit steep.
Monkeyman04on March 23, 2010 at 12:50 a.m.
For 3000$ I would rather build my own gaming rig.

I stick with buying Asus laptops for my portable gaming. Much cheaper. Not as fast im sure. But i bought mine for little over 1000bucks last year. I plan on buying a new one from them with in the year. Gaming laptops are not used as a laptop you can take outside with out a plug in and play games for longer then a few hours tops.

I don't like the look of the Alienware laptops. It sticks out too much I think. I like the anonymous look of my Clevo M571TU a lot better. Sure, it's 17 inches instead but it's still movable.

The price is a big issue, seems like a well built and thought out laptop though. Never been a fan of Alienware, their products are all show. But that is a great looking and reasonably performance laptop. Just the price is a bummer.

Great review Norman.

Huzah! Content on the site that isn't about cell phones! I was thinking they were gonna have to change the sites name from Tested to Phoned for awhile there. Great video. Sadly it reminds me that i need to upgrade my desktop, but i cant afford it!

A gaming laptop? Shenanigans!
HypoXenophobiaon March 23, 2010 at 4:49 a.m.
Watching this video reminds me how great Far Cry 2 is. While gaming on the go seems like a great idea, at a price point of 3,000, that is quite a turn off. Especially considering that its the fully spec-ed out version which is still just "adequate."
yorroon March 23, 2010 at 5:12 a.m.
Ah yes, the infamous Crysis
NoXiouson March 23, 2010 at 5:27 a.m.
Pfoooh! It can't even run Crysis on max? Cost/performance seems rubbish, but I guess you're not looking into Alienware if you ain't got the cash to spend to begin with.
Bowlbyon March 23, 2010 at 5:53 a.m.
Good review. My impressions of this is that it's ugly, overpriced, suffers from poor cost-to-performance, isn't all that portable and, of course, has a limited shelf life, as it can't be upgraded, either.
Scrollon March 23, 2010 at 6:41 a.m.
My Bro's got the Mx11 which has it's similarities in design but lacks the i7 and 260m thus the price is far lower and still plays games like DoW2 really quite well on high settings.

Not sure I'd play Crysis on a laptop anyway.

Or a Desktop.
Baneon March 23, 2010 at 6:42 a.m.
$3,250 for that?  A fool and his money are soon parted.
eznarkon March 23, 2010 at 6:49 a.m.
Wow, nice to hear they learned to quiet their notebooks.  My 3 year old Alienware laptop sounds like a freaking jet engine.
Fripplebubbyon March 23, 2010 at 7:54 a.m.
I literally have a better pc with my custom desktop= around $450.  That being said, I don't have the cool lights or the portability, but i'm still happy with my desktop that is 15% of the price of the Alienware. Also, did Norm mention the RAM on the laptop?
Newtenon March 23, 2010 at 8:19 a.m.
That is probably the coolest looking laptop I've ever seen, such a shame it can't play Crysis on max though. That be be awesome. I love the way you can change the lights behind the keyboard and stuff. Man if I was stinking rich I'd by this just for how awesome it looks.

Cool
wosifaton March 23, 2010 at 9:36 a.m.
So, I'll look elsewhere for a laptop (as if my budget would GIVE me any choice...)
But the main reason for this post is to say, AWESOME SHIRT!
